Colchicum speciosum (the largest species)

Colchicum speciosum (the largest species)

COMING SOON

Now growing, so available from the end of summer. A large bulb with  25 cm long leaves in spring and early summer. The flowers are solitary and large popping out of the ground in autumn when little is out, making a blaze of colour. Easy in light shade or sun if moist while growing. These bulbs are toxic to sheep and rabbits and so are good subjects to naturalise in meadows. If you can get some, the sheep can maintain the grass! Bob L de Berry at Cambria woods, St Bathans, who has naturalised snowdrops to great effect, has also started to naturalised these in deciduous woodlands.  Best posted when dormant. Price per dormant bulb. Huge to ginormous and large. Bulk up quickly.
